At least 13 people including two minors were injured in explosions that occurred in three different places of the country where the Nepali Congress (NC) was due to hold electoral assemblies on Monday afternoon.

According to a leading website, eKantipur.com, 10 people including two children were injured when a bomb went off at Ghantaghar in the southern border town of Birgunj when NC rally was converging into an assembly. Two of them have been reported tobe in critical condition.

The NC was reportedly scheduled to hold an assembly at the incident site, some 90 km south of Kathmandu.

In the capital, one civilian was injured in an explosion near the NC electoral assembly venue at New Baneshwor at around 1:20 p.m. (0735 GMT).

Armed Police Force Deputy Superintend end Police Bhim Bahadur Chaudhary informed that a socket bomb went off in the park opposite the western gate of the Birendra International Convention Center in Kathmandu.

According to eye witnesses, the explosion occurred shortly after a group riding a motorcycle hurled the bomb.

Police have said that a search operation is underway to find the persons involved in the bombing.

Likewise, an unidentified group hurled a bomb when the NC was carrying out a motorcycle rally in Sunsari district in eastern Nepal, some 220 km east of Kathmandu Monday noon, injuring two people.

Jwala Singh-led Janatantric Terai Mukti Morcha and Madhesi Mukti Tigers have claimed responsibility for the explosion.
