Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M) Prachanda Wednesday drew Nepali government's attention towards the killing of seven CPN-M cadres in western Nepal and required his party cadres to observe restrain.
At least seven cadres of CPN-M were killed in police firing during a clash on Tuesday night. Local leading news website eKantipur reported that the CPN-M cadres were killed "in a fire exchange between the security personnel and armed Maoist cadres."
The clash occurred between the cadres of CPN-M, the second largest party in Nepali Interim Parliament, and the activists of Nepali Congress (NC), the largest party, at Lamahi bazaar on the East-West Mahendra Highway in Dang district's Deukhuri valley, some 280 km west of Nepali capital Kathmandu, on Tuesday evening.
According to eKantipur, "the fire exchange between the police and Maoist cadres erupted after armed Maoist cadres started firing targeting the police team escorting NC candidate Khum Bahadur Khadka" on Tuesday night.
Chairman Prachanda demanded strong action against the guilty. He called on Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Wednesday morning and urged to take stern action against the guilty so that his party men do not become violent on the eve of the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.
Prachanda also said that his party cadres were enraged following the killings.
Likewise, the Prime Minister also assured the CPN-M chairman to take action after investigating the incident and urged him to appeal to his party cadres to maintain restrain, eKantipur quoted CPN-M sources.
Issuing a press statement today, Chairman Prachanda condemned the Dang incident and demanded strong action against the guilty.
In the statement, Prachanda also appealed to his party cadres and civilians to make Thursday's CA polls a success by converting the sadness over the killing into firm determination and restraint.
The statement mentioned that "it was need of the hour to take revenge against the feudalistic elements' daring crime which saw Maoists' success in the CA elections by exercising determination and calmness for a free and fair election."
