Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Michael Somare and Tongan Prime Minister Feleti Savele have held secret talks with Fiji's interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama on his commitment to hold general elections next March, the PACNEWS reported on Friday.

The meeting took place in Nadi on Thursday, the Suva-based regional news agency said.

The talks were believed to focus on Bainimarama's commitment at the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting in Tonga last October of holding general elections in Fiji in March, 2009.

They also discussed the upcoming leaders' meeting of Pacific Islands Forum, to be held in Niue in August.

Sevele is the current chairman of the Forum.
