A strong earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale hit the southern Ocean near the remote Australian territory of Macquarie Island region on Saturday, and there were no immediate reports of casualties or damages, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
No tsunami warning has been issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The quake, occurred at 11:30 a.m. Saturday New Zealand time (23:30 GMT Friday), was centered beneath open ocean, 112 km southwest of Macquarie Island, and 755 km southwest of New Zealand's Auckland Island. Source:Xinhua
