A minor bomb explosion occurred in the downtown area of Myanmar's former capital of Yangon Sunday night with no casualties, according to the police authorities.

The blast, which took place minutes before 8 p.m. (local time) near a taxi parked inside 36th Street in the Kyauktada township, was initially said to have destroyed some parts of the vehicle, eyewitnesses said.

The scene, about 100 meters away from the City Hall, has been blocked by the police.

Investigation is underway on the blast.
