The six Chinese who detained New Zealand fugitive Nai Yin Xue, in Atlanta of the United States, will receive a 10,000 U.S. dollar-reward from New Zealand police on Tuesday, the New Zealand Herald daily reported on Monday.
Xue is accused of murdering his wife whose body was found in the boot of the family car outside their home in New Zealand's largest city of Auckland last September.
He was on the run for six months after abandoning his three year-old daughter at a Melbourne train station.
Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Scott is in charge of the murder investigation and has praised the honor and integrity of those who detained Xue.
"The fact they were not even aware a reward had been offered for information leading to the arrest makes it all the more heartening that people would compromise their own safety to do the right thing and detain a fugitive," Scott said.
The reward will be presented by New Zealand's U.S. police liaison officer at a formal ceremony in Atlanta.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that the six Chinese have decided to give 2,000 dollars to a friend who needs care and "the other 8,000 dollars is headed back across the globe, to Nai Yin Xue's little daughter whose mother was gone."
Xue was deported from the United States on March 10 and has appeared in the Auckland District Court, charged with the murder of his wife. He was in custody and is due in court again at the end of the month for a pre-depositions hearing.
