Ten people were killed and 7 others injured in three road accidents in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka, southeastern Cox's Bazar and central Gazipur districts Saturday evening and Sunday, private news agency UNB reported.

Four people were killed as a bus rammed into a three-wheeler auto-rickshaw in Keraniganj of Dhaka district on Sunday morning.

Witnesses said the auto-rickshaw turned turtle on the road as the bus hit it from behind, killing the four people on the spot at about 11:30 a.m. local time.

In Gazipur district, about 30 km north of Dhaka, at least three day-laborers were killed and five others injured in a fatal road accident in Kaliakoir sub-district early Sunday.

Police and witnesses said the accident occurred at about 4 a.m. local time when a pulse loaded truck dashed a standing bus on a highway. They said both the bus and the truck turned turtle on the road leaving three truck passengers dead on the spot and five others injured.

In another accident in Cox's Bazar district, 310 km southeast of Dhaka, three people were killed and two others injured as a truck plunged into a canal after collapse of a bridge in Teknaf sub-district Saturday evening.

Witnesses said when the betel-leaf laden truck was crossing the wood-made bridge it suddenly collapsed and the truck fell into the canal, killing three people on the spot.

The truck driver and his helper were seriously injured in the accident.

Bangladesh has one of the highest fatality rates for road accidents in the world. According to official statistics, more than 10,000 people are killed in road accidents every year.
