At least 29 Pakistani nationals held in Indian jails are expected to be released and repatriated to Pakistan in May, local media Pak Tribune reported Monday.

The Indian authorities have agreed to their release and the announcement of and repatriation of these prisoners will be made during the trip of Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee to Pakistan at the end of May, Pak Tribune quoted a human rights organization Ansar Burney Trust as saying.

Chairman of the Ansar Burney Trust, Ansar Burney recently visited India and received a list of 169 Pakistani prisoners lodged in Indian jails. The organization then release the name list through media and located the families of many of these persons to confirm their nationalities.

Pakistani officials visited the jails where these Pakistanis are lodged and confirmed the nationalities of almost 29 prisoners among a total of 49 names forwarded by Ansar Burney in Indian Punjab.

Pakistan and India have set up a joint committee which will meet routinely to review the situation of prisoners held in each other's prisoners in a bid to secure the release of them.
