The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has sent two six-man teams to Bamiyan Province in central Afghanistan, to help with the country's reconstruction effort, said the Defense Ministry in a statement on Monday.

Each construction engineering team will be there for about three months -- between May 3 and October 31, said the statement.

This deployment is part of Singapore's overall contribution to the international humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.

The teams will be working as part of the New Zealand Defence Force's Provincial Reconstruction Team in Bamiyan.

The Singapore teams will supervise the building of a Regional Health Training Center, which is meant to be a one-stop center for the training of all healthcare workers in Bamiyan province, said the statement.

The SAF sent a five-man dental team and a five-man engineering team there with the New Zealand's team for about three months each last year.
