Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will pay a visit to Pakistan on May 21 to restart the stalled talks between the two South Asian neighbors, state media reported on Monday.

During his upcoming visit to Islamabad, Mukherjee will hold talks with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the first high-level contact with the new government, the official Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) said.

"The talks between Mukherjee and Qureshi, which will also set the tone for the fifth round of composite dialogue, will be preceded by the foreign secretary-level discussions on May 20," the APP said.

The peace process between the two rivals began in February 2004, and the two countries had held four rounds of talks under the framework of composite dialogue on controversial issues including the disputed Kashmir issue.

The fourth round of composite dialogue ended late last year without being formally announced due to political turmoil in Pakistan.

During the much-delayed talks, the two sides will review the fourth round of composite dialogue and set the timetable for the fifth round of talks, the APP said.
