Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M) Prachanda Monday said efforts are underway to convince leaders of other political parties including Madhes-based parties to join the upcoming government.
Emerging from a meeting with leader of Communist Party of Nepal(Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal at the latter's residence in capital Kathmandu on Monday, Prachanda said his party wanted the ruling parties and the Madhesi parties to be part of the next government, the local media house's website nepalnews.com reported.
He claimed that major parties were close to reaching an understanding to form a consensus government.
Describing the discussion with CPN-UML leaders as being positive, the Chairman of the CPN-M Prachanda said he was hopeful that the CPN-UML would join the government.
He further said, "I am confident that things will move ahead smoothly in forming a consensus government."
Responding to a query over the reported bickering between his party and the Nepali Congress over power-sharing, Prachanda said, "There is no disagreement among us regarding power-sharing, but we have not started deliberation on division of portfolios."
Prachanda informed that a meeting of the seven-party alliance would be held in two or three days to discuss the formation of government and bring other parties into a new alliance.
Prachanda, who has been projected as the next Prime Minister with the CPN-M emerging as the largest party after recently concluded Constituent Assembly (CA) polls, has already held series of meetings with leaders of various parties and is scheduled to meet the leaders of Madhesi People's Rights Forum and Terai Madhes Loktrantrik Party very soon to convince them to support the government led by CPN-M.
