Singapore on Monday offered help to Myanmar which has been hit by a cyclone disaster over the weekend.

Singapore's Foreign Minister George Yeo on Monday wrote to his Myanmar counterpart U Nyan Win to convey his sympathies.

"I am deeply saddened to learn about the widespread damage caused by Cyclone Nargis over the weekend. My heart goes out to the people of Myanmar who have been affected by the tragedy."

"If there is any way Singapore can help, please do not hesitate to let us know," he said in the letter.

According to the latest reports, more than 15,000 people have been killed in two divisions of Yangon and Ayeyawaddy in the violent Cyclone Nargis that swept Myanmar's five divisions and states on last Friday and Saturday.

Singapore's Foreign Ministry and its embassy in Yangon are closely monitoring the situation in Myanmar, and there have been no reports thus far of any injuries to any Singaporean as a result of the cyclone, said the ministry in a statement on Monday.
