Pakistan's coalition parties on Monday expressed disagreement over the postponement of by-elections.
"Pakistan People's Party (PPP) is surprised and dismayed over the decision and the party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has condemned the decision of this postponement," PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar told reporters.
Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the second largest party in the country, rejected the decision to put off theby-elections again.
PML-N spokesman Siddique al Farooque termed the decision as a conspiracy against the ruling coalition and said that the decision would be challenged.
Citing the law and order situation and the forthcoming budget, the Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday postponed the June 18 by-elections by two months to August 18.
Siddique al Farooque said the reason cited for the postponement was not credible and could not hold the ground, adding that the situation in the country was much better than it was during the February elections and that was not the reality to delay the election.
The by-polls were originally scheduled for June 3 and then rescheduled for June 18.
