The Philippine authorities have launched a manhunt against five British men accused of pedophile crimes, the Philippine Bureau of Immigration said Thursday.
Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said the five British men were charged of sexually molesting minors in both the Philippines and other countries.
Libanan said Manila and London are working on a extradition treaty which would help hunt down the suspects.
"The proposed treaty will surely add more teeth to our campaign in hunting down these foreigners who prey on our women and children," he said.
Libanan also appealed for cooperation of the public in hunting down the five fugitives by providing information that could lead to their arrest.
"I am asking the public to call the bureau's hotline should they have any information that could lead to the arrest of the wanted foreigners," he said.
British Member of Parliament and Undersecretary of the Foreign Commonwealth Office Meg Munn visited the Philippines last week on the signing of an extradition treaty, which specifically targets British sex offenders or pedophiles in the Philippines.
Philippine authorities have arrested and deported five foreigners for pedophile criminal offenses since late last year.
