An earthquake with magnitude of 5.1 rocked Sumatra Island in western parts of Indonesia on Monday, but there was no report of damage or casualties, local meteorology agency said.

The quake struck at 11:58 a.m. (0458 GMT) with epicenter at 96 kilometers southwest Bengkulu province and 18 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.

Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone, so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire," where two continental plates meet that causes frequent seismic and vulcanic movement.
