The Commander-in-Chief of Royal Thai Army Gen. Anupong Paochinda on Monday ruled out the possibility of another coup, saying the military is not worried about such speculations.

"I hereby affirm there will be no coup and we are not worried about the speculations," Anupong said while commenting on speculations by local media that the military was contemplating another coup.

Meanwhile, the army commander declined to comment on a threat by the government to take disciplinary actions against state-owned broadcast media if their reports support a coup.

However, Anupong was quoted by local news network The Nation assaying that the media's job is to keep the people up-to-date about what is happening and that no one should be able to tell them what to do and how to do.

Recently, some local media continuously reported the military is preparing another coup to oust the premier Samak Sundaravej. Last week, the Prime Minister's Office Minister Jakrapob Penkair warned local reporters not to do anything to support a military coup either directly or indirectly.

"I believe that whatever they (reporters) choose to feature is based on facts and I am certain that they are able to think for themselves about which stories are relevant," said Anupong.

Anupong also said the army and the prime minister are on good terms with each other. He said all the rumors about the coup were sparked by those wanting to cause confusion.
