Forty-one persons were confirmed dead, with still many more missing when a passenger launch with more than 200 passengers on board capsized Monday in Bangladesh's Kishoreganj district, 100 km northeast of capital Dhaka, police said Tuesday.
Jahangir Alam, a police office who is on the spot of the accident, told Xinhua by phone that the rescue team recovered 37 bodies Tuesday morning, bringing the total death toll from the accident to 41.
Alam said a rescue team consisting of members from the Army, the Police and Fire Brigade is doing the rescue operation.
He said the launch is 30 feet (about 9.1 meters) under water, adding the death toll will rise further after the launch is lifted.
The launch capsized in the Ghorautra River near Nikli subdistrict while caught in a tropical storm. Four bodies were recovered Monday.
