The Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) has admitted that its two Russian-made Sukhoi jet fighters had an avionic problem and couldn't be operated properly, local press said Tuesday.
"The two Sukhoi jet fighters cannot be used because of an avionic problem (a problem with electronic devices in the aircraft)," Air Force spokesman Sudipo Handoyo was quoted by the national Antara news agency as saying.
He said the two Sukhois, SU-27SK and SU-30MK, could not be used because some parts of the devices had yet to arrive from Russia.
"Although we have the money to buy the avionic parts from Russia, we can do nothing because the parts are out of stock. But we will wait," Sudipo said.
The two Sukhois were based at the Hassanudin military airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi province.
Indonesia has four Sukhois bought in 2004 and plans to acquire six more.
