Former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will be among the keynote speakers at the Indonesian Regional Investment Forum (IRIF) to be held here on May 26 and 27,the organizers said Wednesday.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to open the event to be organized jointly by the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) and Global Initiatives.

"Former premier Thaksin will speak on behalf of the owners of Thai telecommunications company Shin Corporation," DPD Deputy Chairman Irman Gusman, who is also chairman of the organizing committee, was quoted by the national Antara news agency as saying.

He said among other figures to speak at the forum would be former Malaysian deputy prime minister Tun Musa Hitam on behalf of the president director of Sime Darby and the chief executive officer (CEO) of Khazanah Nasional, Dato Azman Mokhtar.

He added so far 1,000 people have been confirmed to attend the forum which will offer some 200 projects in 75 districts and municipalities in Indonesia.

The projects cover the sectors of agribusiness, property, mining and energy, tourism and infrastructure, he said.

"For agribusiness, there are 40 projects offered, including plantations in West Java and animal husbandry in Lampung," he added.

Chief executive officer of Global Initiatives Tony Gourlay said the biggest project on offer was the construction of Bojonegara seaport in Banten which might reach 784 million U.S. dollars.
