Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is extending its "Everyday Low Fares" campaign to all its ASEAN destinations and selected routes between Malaysia and China next week, local media reported on Thursday.

The national carrier will offer 1 million seats to customers, its executive director and chief financial officer Azmil Zahruddin said.

MAS may also extend the offer to more international destinations later.

The first international destination with a zero fare offer will be China, namely Kota Kinabalu (capital of Malaysian eastern Sabahstate) -Hong Kong/Guangzhou (capital city of China's southeast Guangdong province).

The new launch will see MAS offer zero fares to 24 destinations in ASEAN including China.

The campaign is available for travel to and from Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines and Brunei.

Bookings are open from May 21 until June 3, 2008 for travel between July 1 and December 14, 2008.

MAS first launched the low fare campaign with 1 million zero fares for all its domestic routes.

The response to the domestic campaign has been overwhelming with over 150,000 seats sold, Azmil said.

"We are not losing any revenue from this as the seats represents 30 percent of surplus seats which would otherwise be unsold," the New Straits Times quoted Azmil as saying.

According to MAS senior general manager for network revenue management Bernard Francis, MAS has between 3 million to 4 million unsold seats in both the local and ASEAN routes.
