Thousands of Filipinos were displaced after flash floods destroyed several houses in five villages in Negros Occidental, central Philippines, reported local television network ABS-CBN News Thursday.
The provincial office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development said more than 5,821 people were displaced by flash floods, while 10,000 others were affected by floods.
The Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said on Wednesday that Luzon in northern Philippines and the central region of Visayas were expected to come under heavy rains as an active low pressure area developed into a full-blown typhoon near Visayas.
The weather bureau has also warned of landslide and floods that could be brought about by heavy rains and storms.
