Eight militants have been detained during an Afghan National Security and the U.S.-led Coalition forces' joint operation in eastern Afghan province of Paktia, said a Coalition statement issued here Friday.

The arrests were made after the combined force searched several compounds in Zadran District to target a Taliban militant, the statement said. "IED (improvised explosive device) components were discovered on the compounds and removed to prevent possible future use," it added.

The U.S.-led military alliance, a 20,000-strong multi-national force deployed in Afghanistan with security mission, offered no more information in the statement.

The Coalition and Afghan forces have recently conducted a series of major anti-insurgent operation in Afghanistan's restive eastern and southern regions.
