At least 75 people were injured when a bomb exploded in the business district of Sri Lankan capital Colombo around 12 noon time (0630 GMT) on Friday, defense and hospital officials said.

Defense officials said a motorcycle-riding suicide bomber of the Tamil Tigers rammed into a bus carrying police personnel at the Fort area and caused the explosion.

Hector Weerasinghe, the director of the Colombo National Hospital said at least 75 people had been admitted to the hospital from injuries received from the attack.
