Nepali Finance Minister accuses UN body of being helpless

Nepal's Minister for Finance and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat Sunday accused the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) of becoming helpless due to the anarchic activities carried out by Communist Party of Nepal(Maoist) (CPN-M).

Hinting at the murder of a businessman, the Finance Minister claimed that the UNMIN remained silent even when a civilian was inflicted torture and killed inside its cantonments, reported the local media house's website eKantipur.

Speaking at a program in the capital, he accused the UN body of failing to play an effective role in Nepal.

Mentioning terrorism and constitutional politics cannot go hand-in-hand, Mahat went on to criticize the activities of the CPN-M.

The Finance Minister accused the CPN-M of trying to form the government with the power of threat.

Mahat also said that the NC would hand over the power in a democratic process.
