A group of U.S. experts will travel soon to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in preparation for Washington's planned food assistance delivery, said U.S. Ambassador to Seoul Alexander Vershbow on Monday.

"Experts' meeting will be held in Pyongyang in the very near future for operational details," Vershbow said here.

"Both the U.S. and South Korea are worried about the DPRK's dire food situation," he added, without giving a specific date for the visit.

The U.S. government announced earlier that it will provide 500,000 tons of food to the DPRK.
