Kyrgyzstan's Parliament Speaker Adakhan Madumarov told reporters Wednesday he had resigned, news reports from the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek said.

Madumarov did not give any reason for the move.

Kyrgyzstan's ruling Ak Zhol party decided at a party meeting Wednesday to accept Madumarov's resignation, saying that he had made derogatory remarks about the party's leader and the country's President Kurmanbek Bakiyev.

Madumarov, who has headed the parliament since his election last year, will meet with Bakiyev later Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the parliament is expected to hold a plenary session Thursday on Madumarov's resignation.
