An explosion ripped through the entrance of an airbase in southern Philippine city of Zamboanga Thursday morning, killing one and wounding at least 10 people, local police said.
The blast happened at around 10 a.m. (0200 GMT) near the gate of the Edwin Andrews Airbase in Zamboanga, the on-line edition of Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted military and police sources as saying.
Local police said they suspected the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device, hurting the civilians who were waiting for military C-130 transport planes.
Police said the injured, who suffered severe burns, have been sent to hospital but their identities are not immediately clear.
The report did not say whether the victim was killed immediately by the blast or died on the way to the hospital.
Reports said the shrapnel from the explosion damaged the office of congresswoman Beng Climaco and several other premises located at the airbase.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
