A mother and her son were killed while three others were injured in a road accident in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province Monday.

A car carrying five people were heading from Sadiqabad to Pir Zahir Shah village when an oil-tanker coming from the opposite side collided with it, according to official Associated Press of Pakistan.

As a result, Anwar Bibi and her son Abdul Ghaffar died on the spot while three others including two women sustained critical injuries.

The injured were shifted to a local hospital while the oil-tanker driver and other crew fled from the scene.

A case has also been registered against the tanker's driver and search for the culprits is under way.
