An earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale hit eastern Honshu, Japan at 07:43 a.m. Beijing Time Saturday, according to the China Earthquake Network Center.

The epicenter was located at 39.1 degrees north latitude and 140.8 degrees east longitude, it says.
