New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark on Tuesday urged government officials to take action, following three killings in South Auckland in this month.

In the latest incident, a woman of Chinese origin was killed after being robbed and struck by a vehicle in the Manukau City shopping center.

Clark said that the rise in the number of violent and horrific crimes in the area is distressing for the community, Radio New Zealand reported.

She said that it could lead to a neighborhood being stigmatized, even though the majority of residents are decent people behaving in a law abiding way.

Clark said a meeting was organized between the chief executives of government departments to see how they can better support police and social agencies in South Auckland.
