A widow was shot dead by suspected insurgents in Thailand's violence-torn deep southern province Narathiwat Tuesday morning, media here reported.
The widow, a 45-year-old Muslim woman, was on her way from home for work at a rubber plantation when two suspected insurgents riding on a motorcycle chased her and opened fire at her in Bacho district, Narathiwat Province at around 6.30 a.m. Tuesday (2330 GMT Monday), according to a report by the Bangkok Post website.
Police said the victim had five children to look after.
Thailand's three southernmost provinces -- Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani have been stricken by insurgent violence since early 2004,which has killed over 3,000 people in the region. Authorities have blamed southern Muslim separatists as the culprit for the violence. Source: Xinhua
