Vietnam to host ASEAN tourism forum next January

Vietnam will hold the 28th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Tourism Forum in Hanoi from Jan. 5-12, 2009 with the expected participation of some 1,500 foreign people, according to local newspaper People on Wednesday.

During the annual event, meetings of ASEAN Tourism Ministers and industry associations, traveling conferences and exhibitions will be held, in a move to map out specific projects and programs on regional tourism integration, and put forth orientations for cooperation between the ASEAN and its partners like China, Japan, South Korea and Australia.

The ASEAN has 10 member nations: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Vietnam plans to host 4.8-5 million international arrivals, mainly from China, Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, North America, Western Europe and Eastern Europe this year, up from more than 4.2 million last year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
