Myanmar has removed relief camps in Kawmu, one of the cyclone-hit townships in Yangon division, evacuating temporarily-housed victims there back to their native villages, reported the weekly 7-Day News Wednesday.

These cyclone victims were sent back after being provided with one-month ration, local township authorities was quoted as saying.

With schools under reconstruction, 75 percent of the resettlement work in Kawmu has finished, according to the authorities.

The cyclone storm destroyed 7 wards and 115 villages in Kawmu with 25,757 houses damaged, leaving 27,704 households homeless, the authorities said, adding that 130 people as well as 709 cow and cattle were killed in the disaster.

Myanmar earlier announced that the first phase of the country's post-disaster restoration work -- rescue and relief, has finished up to a certain extent and it has now entered into a second phase of resettlement and reconstruction.

The government has also outlined a measure dealing with the resettlement for cyclone survivors, saying that those who want to return to their native regions will be sent back with short-period ration. Besides, temporary tents will be built for them in the regions with further arrangements to be made for them to build permanent houses.

In addition, for their long-term livelihood, arrangements will also be made for those who are engaged in agriculture to supply power tillers and paddy strains and for fishermen fishing equipment.

Under the post-disaster restoration plan, 30 Myanmar private companies have been taking part in the restoration work in cyclone-hit regions with assignments by the government to take the responsibility of undertaking resettlement work in 17 affected townships.

Deadly tropical cyclone Nargis, which occurred over the Bay of Bengal, hit five divisions and states -- Ayeyawaddy, Yangon, Bago, Mon and Kayin on last May 2-3, of which Ayeyawaddy and Yangon inflicted the heaviest casualties and massive infrastructural damage.

The storm has killed 77,738 people and left 55,917 missing and 19,359 injured according to official-released death toll.
