Japan will map out measures against flooding within one month as the 15 quake lakes created by the June 14 earthquake posed grave threats of flooding, the land ministry said Friday.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will have ready-to-assemble large excavators and drainage pipes which are easier to transport and install as part of the planned measures, ministry officials said.
The measures are to be worked out in response to the need to release the flood properly from the quake lakes created when debris and rubbles dam up the mountain rivers.
The ministry will deploy the excavators to its regional branches throughout the country to make anti-flooding measures more responsive and efficient, they said, adding that an expert panel will be set up to implement the measures.
