The United States has agreed it will certify that only beef from cattle less than 30 months old will be exported to South Korea, the Yonhap news agency report Saturday.
The report quoted government sources as saying that the agreement was reached during talks between South Korea and the U.S. in Washington.
South Korean Trade Minister Kim Jong-hoon and U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab had held week-long talks to address concerns over the safety of U.S. beef shipments to South Korea.
Seoul has been rocked by protests over the controversial beef deal with the U.S. since early May due to public concerns over mad cow disease.
