The Philippine capital Metro Manila was invaded by flood waters brought about by typhoon "Fengshen" on Sunday, after one night's heavy wind and rains.

All domestic flights for Sunday were canceled and international flights were delayed, according to local radio reports.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said gutter-deep flood waters submerged several thoroughfares in Metro Manila, while some streets in Manila were submerged with knee-keep water.

Some parts of the capital region came under power outage for several hours Sunday morning due to toppled electricity post and damaged transformers.

Meanwhile, thousands of people are reported to be evacuated in other places hit by "Fengshen" since Friday.

At least 20 people have been killed by "Fengshen" after it landed in the central island of Samar Friday night, setting off a west-ward rampage across the central Philippine islands in Visayasand southern Luzon. The typhoon, which also brought heavy rains to southern Mindanao, is expected to leave the Philippines Sunday night.

A ferry boat carrying more than 700 people has capsized off the Romblon island in central Philippines.

The Philippine Navy and Coast Guards are sending rescue ships to the site of the sinking.
