South Korean President Lee Myung-bakon Wednesday stated that his government is willing to assist the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) as long as the latter abandon its nuclear weapons program.
"If North Korea (DPRK) gives up its nuclear weapons program and pursues changes, we, together with international society, will actively help the North stand on its own feet economically," said the president in an address to a reception for veterans.
"South Korea will also be ready to hold dialogue with the North to discuss expanding inter-Korean reconciliation, cooperation and exchanges," Lee was quoted by the Yonhap news agency as saying.
