A Malaysian International Humanitarian Law Committee has been formed to oversee the implementation of international humanitarian law and educate the public about their rights and obligations in times of war, local reports said here on Wednesday.
With the setting up of the committee, all necessary steps would be taken so that Malaysia conformed to international humanitarian laws, especially the Geneva Convention 1949, Malaysia's national news agency Bernama said.
The committee's first task would be to determine the scope and function of the Malaysian government and its people in times of armed conflicts, Bernama quoted Malaysian Foreign Minister Dais Yatim as saying.
The decision to set up the committee was made by the cabinet in December last year, Dais said. Source:Xinhua
