Indonesian military commander General Djoko Santoso said on Wednesday that the country's navy should be included in the long research cooperation with the U.S. navy in Jakarta.
Talking in a hearing with the parliament here, the commander said that the cooperation with the U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit 2 or Namru-2 was not balanced.
The cooperation between Indonesia and the United States seems to be rather imbalanced, the commander said, adding that the right partner for the U.S. in the research was the Indonesian Navy.
Indonesia has proposed a new agreement in November 2007 with Washington about the presence and operations of Namru-2 in Indonesia
The Namru-2 has conducted researches in Indonesia since the 1970s on infectious disease.
Indonesian health minister Siti Fadillah Sufari has said that the research has yet given any positive impact on Indonesia. Source:Xinhua
