The United States' delisting of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) from the list of nations sponsoring terrorism will not negatively affect Japan's efforts to resolve the issue of the DPRK's past abduction of Japanese nationals, Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda said Thursday.

Fukuda said he believed that there will be no change in the United States' stance on cooperating with Japan to resolve the abduction issue.

The prime minister made the remarks in front of press at his official residence shortly prior to the DPRK's scheduled declaration of its nuclear programs.

Fukuda said "continued close cooperation between Japan and the United States" will make conditions for resolving issues involving the DPRK and Japan would like to continue negotiations with the DPRK side for the resolution of issues preventing the two countries from normalizing relations.

Earlier this week, Fukuda said Japan welcomes the DPRK's declaration of its nuclear programs as the step would help accelerate the resolution of the nuclear issue.
