A strong earthquake in the South Pacific has shaken homes and other buildings in Tonga, but there were no immediate reports of injury or damage, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck midmorning Friday about 201kilometers northeast of the capital, Nuku'alofa, and some 20 kilometers below the sea floor.
Mafua Maka, A safety officer with Tonga's National Disaster Management Office, said no damage or casualty reports have been received and no tsunami warning has been issued.
