Conflicts and Taliban-related violence have left scores of militants and three civilians dead in Afghanistan, officials said Monday.
In the first conflict, occurred in Afghanistan's southwest Nimroz province on Sunday, scores of suspected militants were killed, a press release of the U.S.-led Coalition forces said.
"Several militants were killed and one was detained Sunday during a Coalition forces operation to disrupt militant activities in Nimroz province," the press release said.
It also said that the Coalition forces searched compounds in Khash Rod District targeting a Taliban leader known to facilitate suicide IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) attacks.
"Multiple militant groups engaged the force in a compound and in nearby areas and the forces killed them using small-arms fire," it said.
Two additional groups of armed militants maneuvered against the force a were killed by airstrikes, the press release said.
A large number of arms and ammunition including AK-47 assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades had been found and destroyed during the operation, the press release said.
Moreover, militants abducted and killed three civilians in Afghanistan's eastern Khost province on the same day Sunday, a local official said.
"Insurgents attempting to destabilize security kidnapped three civilians from Spairy district on Sunday evening and shot them dead later in the area," Hussain Jan Shirzai, the district chief of Spairy, told Xinhua.
Militancy and conflicts have left more than 2,000 people dead since January this year in Afghanistan.
