South Korea's rival parties were moving Monday to normalize the parliament after a month of partisan disputes over the resumption of U.S beef imports.

The ruling Grand National Party agreed to cooperate in revising a local law on animal epidemics in an obvious bid to coax the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) into ending its boycott of the newly-launched legislature, the Yonhap news agency reporteMonday.

The UDP has been leading a boycott of the National Assembly since May 30, demanding a set of legal revisions to secure stricter import terms for U.S. beef.

After South Korea and the United States struck an additional agreement to ban shipments of beef from cattle older than 30 months, Seoul officially resumed importation last Thursday, putting the April 18 bilateral accord into effect.

Opposition legislators have been joining the anti-U.S. beef protest rallies since June 10.
