One child was killed and four others sustained injuries as an explosive device left over from the past wars exploded in Afghanistan's western Herat city on Monday, a press release of interior ministry said.
"The tragic incident took place at noon when the ill-fated children were scavenging at a garbage bucket and found the device when tried to open it suddenly exploded leaving one dead on the spot," the press release added.
Four more wounded children have been taken to hospital where the doctors amputated the leg of one of the victims, it further said.
Ordnances and improvised explosive devices left over from the past three decades of war in Afghanistan still claim the lives or maim dozens of Afghans particularly the children. Source: Xinhua
