Afghan forces with the support of NATO's air power eliminated over a dozen suspected insurgents in Afghanistan's southwestern Nimroz province, a press release of interior ministry said on Monday.
"A group of rebels raided police checkpoint in Dasht-e-Bakwa district at around 8 p.m. (1530 GMT) Sunday night and police returned fire forcing them to retreat," the press release added.
During the firefight NATO's air power carried out air strike on the fleeing militants, killing 15 of them.
Three local commanders of the Talibans, Mullah Rahmatullah, Mullah Manan and Mullah Daud, are among those being killed in the battle.
Earlier a statement of the U.S.-led Coalition forces said that several militants were killed in Nimroz province Sunday.
Taliban militants have made no comment.
