Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has discussed the situation in Zimbabwe with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon late Monday night, a spokesman for the prime minister said here on Tuesday.
He said Rudd had a productive 25-minute conversation with Ban Ki-moon.
"The prime minister and secretary general discussed the situation in Zimbabwe including likely developments at the current meeting of the African Union in Egypt and what might be discussed by the UN Security Council over the next few days," the spokesman said.
Rudd and Ki-moon also discussed the confirmation of former Australian foreign minister Alexander Downer as the UN special representative to Cyprus.
"Mr Rudd told the secretary general that Mr Downer has the complete support of the new Australian government in his new role," the spokesman said.
Rudd and Ban also discussed the Australian government's proposal for an international nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament commission and the long-term objectives of the Asia-Pacific community proposal, the spokesman said. Source:Xinhua
