The driver of a lorry left a trail of destruction when he lost control of the lorry which smashed into 13 vehicles here in Malaysia on Monday, local media reported on Tuesday.
The driver of one of the cars involved in the accident was killed on the spot while four had been admitted to hospital with serious injuries.
Two others -- the lorry driver and a policeman in one of the cars -- were slightly injured, the New Straits Times said.
The 14 vehicles damaged in the accident comprised seven cars, two lorries and five motorcycles.
The lorry driver is believed to have beaten a red light and failed to realize that there was a traffic island in front, causing him to lose control as he swerved to avoid it.
The lorry then smashed into an oncoming Nissan car driven by Myanmar national, 58-year-old Nyu Kyaw Lin. The car was crushed to a pulp as it went under the lorry, killing Nyu instantly.
The lorry then crashed into the other vehicles as it spun out of control.
Fire and Rescue personnel took 30 minutes to extricate Nyu's body from the wreckage, a police spokesman said.
The accident caused traffic around the area to come to a standstill for almost two hours.
The four injured victims were from two of the cars and two motorcyclists, a police spokesman said.
