Vietnam and the United States had fruitful cooperation on individual resettlement from 1986 to 2007,Vietnamese newspaper Youth on Tuesday quoted a local official as saying.
In the period, Vietnam cooperated with the United States to allow 518,016 individuals to go to the foreign country for resettlement under such programs as HO (Humanitarian Operation), AC (Amerasian Children -- offspring of U.S. soldiers and Vietnamese women during the Vietnam War which ended in 1975), ROVR(Resettlement Opportunity for Vietnamese Returnees) and HR (Humanitarian Resettlement) at the request of the U.S. side, said Le Xuan Vien, vice director of the Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security.
Specifically, 131,699 people resettled in the United States under the HO program, 81,000 under AC and 17,284 under ROVR, he said at a seminar on reviewing the bilateral cooperation held in Vietnam's southern Ho Chi Minh City on June 30.
