The official Rodong Sinmun Daily blasted Tuesday a planned U.S.-South Korea air force military exercise, saying bilateral trust can only be established after the U.S. halted such provocative act.

If the United States hopes to settle the unresolved issues with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) through dialogs, it should stop military exercises targeting the country, said the daily.

Last Thursday, the DPRK submitted the accounts of its nuclear inventory and the United States accordingly started the process of removing it from the state sponsors of terrorism list, and lifting sanctions imposed under its Trading with the Enemy Act.

Last Friday, the DPRK destroyed the cooling tower at its Yongbyon nuclear complex, a move to which countries involved in the six-party talks aimed at the Korean Peninsula denuclearization, including the United States, expressed welcome.

It was time for both the DPRK and the U.S. to make efforts to maintain the atmosphere of mutual trust and dialogs, the newspaper said.

"The danger of war cannot be removed from the Korean Peninsula nor can peace settle on it as long as the U.S. persists in its moves to provoke a war of aggression against the DPRK," it added.

The United States and South Korea will carry out a week-long joint air force military exercise in a U.S. military base in South Korea starting on July 16, the paper said.
