Two Indonesian men who are the first to be convicted of human organ trading in Singapore were jailed and fined on Thursday.
Sulaiman Damanik, 26, who had earlier admitted to entering into an arrangement to sell his kidney to local retail company CK Tang's executive chairman Tang Wee Sung last month, was sentenced to two weeks' jail and a 1,000 Singapore dollars' fine (about 735 U.S. dollars).
The trading had been found out by the authorities before Damanik transplanting his kidney to Tang for about 17,400 U.S. dollars.
The other Indonesian, Toni, 27, who acted as a liaison man between Sulaiman and Tang, was jailed three months and two weeks, and fined 2,000 Singapore dollars (1,470 U.S. dollars).
Toni had already sold his kidney to a woman Juliana Soh for about 21,610 U.S. dollars.
The other two offenses Toni pleaded guilty to were for selling his kidney to Soh and making a false statutory declaration that no money was paid and that Soh was his adopted mother. Source:Xinhua
